The most characteristic symptom of thallium exposure is alopecia (loss of hair). Cutaneous effects may include dry,
scaly skin and impairment of nail growth often resulting in the appearance of crescent-shaped strips across fingernails
and toenails (Mees' line). Other symptoms in acute poisoning relate chiefly to the gastrointestinal tract, nervous
system, skin, eyes, and cardiovascular system. Acute poisoning results in swelling of the feet and legs, arthralgia,
vomiting, insomnia, hyperesthesia and paresthesia of the hands and feet, mental confusion, polyneuritis with severe
pain in the legs and loins, partial paralysis of the legs, angina-like pains, nephritis, wasting and weakness, and
lymphocytosis and eosinophilia. In chronic poisoning, central and peripheral nervous system abnormalities may persist
including ataxia, tremor, incoordination, paralysis of extremities, endocrine disorders, memory loss, and psychoses
may develop., To the best of our knowledge, the chemical, physical, and toxicological properties have not been
thoroughly investigated.

About Thallium(I) Carbonate Nanoparticles

High Purity, D50 = +10 nanometer (nm) by SEMThallium(I) Carbonate Nanoparticles, nanodots or nanopowders are high surface area nanoscale Thallium(I) Carbonate Nanoparticles particles. American Elements manufactures gold chloride nanoparticles and nanopowder with standard particle size <100 nanometers (nm) and specific surface area (SSA) in the 5-50 m2/g range. They are also available as a dispersion through the AE Nanofluid production group. Nanodispersions are generally defined as suspended nanoparticles in solution either using surfactant or surface charge technology. Nanofluid dispersion and coating selection technical guidance is also available. Surface functionalized nanoparticles allow for the particles to be preferentially adsorbed at the surface interface using chemically bound polymers. Nanopowders are analyzed for chemical composition by ICP, particle size distribution (PSD) by laser diffraction, and for Specific Surface Area (SSA) by BET multi-point correlation techniques. Research for gold chloride nanocrystals has focused on potential electronic, optical, catalytic, and biomedical applications. Thallium carbonate nanoparticles are generally immediately available in most volumes. American Elements produces to many standard grades when applicable, including Mil Spec (military grade); ACS, Reagent and Technical Grade; Food, Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Grade; Optical Grade, USP and EP/BP(European Pharmacopoeia/British Pharmacopoeia) and follows applicable ASTM testing standards. Typical and custom packaging is available. Please request a quote above to receive pricing information based on your specifications.

Thallium Bohr ModelThe number of electrons in each of thallium's shells is 2, 8, 18, 32, 18, 3 and its electron configuration is [Xe] 4f14 5d10 6s2 6p1. The thallium atom has a radius of 170 pm and a Van der Waals radius of 196 pm. Thallium was discovered by Sir William Crookes in 1861 and first isolated by Claude-Auguste Lamy in 1862. Thallium is a post-transition metal that is not found free in nature. Thallium is primarily used for its electrical conductivity as thallium sulfide, which changes with exposure to infrared light. This ability makes the compound useful in photocells. Elemental ThalliumThallium bromide-iodide crystals have been used as infrared optical materials. Thallium has also been used with sulfur, selenium or arsenic to produce low melting glasses which become fluid between 125 and 150 °C, while thallium oxide has been used to produce glasses with a high index of refraction, and is also used in the manufacture of photo cells. Its name is derived from the Greek word thallos, which means twig or green shoot.
